Right... so it's fair to say I haven't 'ranted' for a while now. The last time I remember ranting it ended very badly... for me XD
So that was a long time ago and since then I've kept my mouth shut about most things because I just didn't want to create trouble... but some things are
not better left unsaid. There are a few issues that have plagued my mind for a long time and I need to get them out
(Listen to Cheesey, kiddies. Repression is damaging!)For starters,
I'm white AND Australia, so I MUST be a racistI'm sure the majority of you are aware of the racial... 'issues' within Australia. There have been supposed racial bashing in Melbourne, with thugs attacking Indian uni students, the asylum-seekers situation with Indonesia and of course, the infamous 'Black-faces sketch' that appeared on Hey Hey, It's Saturday. Allegations have been thrown at Australia from every direction, calling Aussies, as a whole, racists. This accusation infuriates me, namely because a large portion of the allegations are coming from America. I'm not trying to point the finger here, but it seems to me that ever since America voted a black man as their president the American media has developed a 'holier-than-thou' attitude towards other countries with racial issues. Have we already forgotten Australia's (and Canada's I believe) apology to the Aborigines for the stolen generation and other crimes that the European settlers committed. Surely one significant historical event cannot be erased by another.
I'm not trying to justify any racism that happens in or out of my country. What I'm trying to say is that it's very easy to forget the good one country does when it seems that another has 'topped' it. America has a black president and though I'm very happy for the country I am very disappointed that so quickly did Barack Obama turn into a trophy of sorts to give America the edge above other countries. Australia has problems just like every other country and we will work on them but calling the entire nation racists is not going make the change happen any quicker.
one down.Oh, we're racist again?Yes, similar issue, different scenario.
It's coming around that time of year again when the Japanese Whalers invade Australian waters to hunt the Fin and Minke Whales. If you've watched me for a long time you'll know that this issue is incredibly close to my heart and honestly, my goal in life is to eradicate Whaling of any kind, commercial or 'scientific research'. Lately the current affairs programs have been getting behind the cause and interviewing people of power in Japan to see what they think about Australia's anger. One man (I forget who he was, probably the minister of fishing) accused Australia of being racist because we're targeting the Japanese and that for the Japanese the culling of Kangaroos is produces the same anger as Whaling is to Australians.
At this point I could have exploded.
There are many reasons why Australia is targeting the Japanese Whalers and not any other Whaling countries, but the biggest, most prominent reasons is that the Japanese come to Australian waters, the Japanese dock at our shipping yards to refuel their murderous machinery and expect us to say nothing of it. Last I checked, Australia was not under the rule of Japan, we could have been if we had lost the second world war but we didn't and we aren't. This means that if Japan does something that pisses us off and then come to our country to refuel we're going to say something about it. Australia also has several business' that require the arrival of the Whales each season to increase tourist dollars in certain towns. So essentially, you, Japan, are taking away our business and, if I know the world like I do, when someone takes money away from another they're going to get royally pissed.
And I feel that I need to clarify the culling of Kangaroos. There is a significant difference between murder and culling. The culling of Kangaroos is primarily for their own good and is often done in a very calculated way so that a certain percent of Kangaroos remain and are able to maintain the population. If we left their populations to grow then the entire population we starve itself to death.
For a second, let's compare the reproductive cycle of Whales and Kangaroos. Kangaroos have the ability to carry three Joey's at once, one out of the pouch, one inside the pouch and one kept in a dormant state inside the females uterus. After Joey #2 has left the pouch and Joey #3 has entered it the female will go into heat again. So you can see here that the Kangaroo are very good at breeding. Whales however, breed only every 1-3 years and gestation (how long they're pregnant) is anywhere between 10-17 months. And it is incredibly rare that a female will ever give birth to more than one calf. I'm not sure if I can make it any clearer than that. In the time that it takes a Whale to conceive and give birth to one calf roughly 156 Joey's could have been born from just one female.
I know the concept of culling is little comforting but the over population of Kangaroos is something that we, humans, created by wiping out any competition for food and/or natural predators, and it is something that we have to rectify. The so-called 'scientific research' the Japanese undertakes each year is nothing like culling. Hunting the Whales each year does not give the species enough time to reproduce and get their numbers back up. If the hunt continues then there will be no Whales left and that is something I refuse to see.
In conclusion, Australia targeting Japan over Whaling has nothing to do with race or ethnicity. It's like... imagine a young, Asian child does something bad and a White Australian child calls them out on it. It's not because you're Asian it's because you were a shit! Japan! STOP ACTING LIKE A SHITTY CHILD AND MAN UP!
Yes, I kinda lost my cool at the end of it. Can't help it, bad children need to be punished.I think I've made myself quiet clear. If you see something here you think contradicts what I've said do speak up

Clarification is always a good thing.
Also, don't be afraid to give your opinion on a subject

I enjoy an intelligent conversation.
There's probably another issue I wanted to cover but I'm very weak right now and need to go and nom on something.
I leave you with a bit of fun info

The meaning behind Kangaroo is "I don't understand the question" in Aborigine XD
A European settler asked an Aboriginal man what the creature was called and he replied "Kangaroo", meaning to say "I don't understand" but the settler took it as the animals name

(strangely that was how my suburb was named, "Wendouree" means "Get lost"

)
forgive any typos
